Warehouse racking protection is a vital part of any industrial storage system. Damage to your pallet racking can be both dangerous and costly, but with some simple measures in place you can prevent many of these accidents from happening.

Column guards are a relatively cheap way to prevent forklift damage to your pallet racking uprights. Ours are bolted to the floor in front of each leg, creating a “crumple zone” in front of the racking. We have large quantities in stock and and they are ready for dispatch in just 2-3 days.

Rack end barriers perform a similar job at the ends of your runs of industrial racking and are available in sizes to suit standard single and back to back runs. All our guards and barriers are supplied with fixing bolts to secure them to a concrete floor.

If any of your warehouse racking backs on to pedestrian areas then anti-collapse mesh should be in place to prevent items falling from the racking and causing injuries. We can supply mesh which can be fixed to pallet racking from all leading manufacturers (Dexion, Link 51, Redirack, Apex, PSS, Polypal, Mecalux etc), usually in 7-10 working days.

What is a pallet racking bay?

A pallet racking bay is two upright frames joined together with pairs of horizontal beams to create levels on which pallets can be stored. You should always have runs of at least two bays joined together, with at least two beam levels in each bay, for stability and for the manufacturer’s stated load capacities to be valid.

Upright frames are made up of two legs braced together and with footplates attached. Standard depths are 900mm and 1100mm and they can be any height from two metres to fifteen metres (and beyond). Horizontal beams start from 950mm long and are available in a wide variety of sizes, sometimes over 4000mm in length. 2700mm is the most common warehouse racking beam length, but 1350mm, 2250mm and 3300mm are also widely used. The load capacity of the beams ranges from a few hundred kilos to at least three tonnes for a uniformly distributed load (UDL).

Our new longspan racking is one of the most popular products we sell, due to the price, quality and versatility of this hand loaded shelving system. The range of sizes of the upright frames and horizontal beams means that we can find a solution for your heavy duty shelving requirements, whether you need a couple of bays for a small storage area or a full high density picking area for your warehouse.

The dimensions of this shelving system can be tailored to suit the sizes of your stock and to fit in a specific space. The height of each shelving level can be adjusted in 50mm increments, meaning that no space should be wasted. This also gives the flexibility to put the first shelf at a higher level, allowing for pallet storage on the floor underneath.

The longspan shelving that we have in stock is made by AR Systems, but if you need a specific make to match your existing warehouse storage system, please let us know and we can provide you with a quote. Dexion, Link 51, Apex and PSS all have their own hand loaded shelving systems and unfortunately none of them are compatible with each other.

If you have used racking for sale then we want to hear from you. We are always in the market for medium to large parcels of quality used pallet racking or longspan shelving and we can arrange to take it down and transport it if required.

If you have a warehouse full of industrial racking that you don’t need then the thought of getting rid of it can seem like a daunting one, but we will happily give you as much guidance as you need. The value of used warehouse racking is based on a number of criteria:

  • The condition of the racking. We will need you to send us a few clear, close up photos so that we can see what your used racking looks like.
  • The manufacturer of the racking. Popular makes such as Dexion, Link 51, Apex, Redirack and PSS are are always of interest, but we will listen to all offers if the quality and quantity are right. If you aren’t sure what type of pallet racking you have, we will be able to identify it from the photos.
  • The size, quantity and duty of the upright frames. We need to know the height and depth of the frames (in millimetres), how many of the you have, and the duty of the frames. The duty might be stamped on the frames- M (medium), S (standard), H (heavy duty) or E (extra heavy duty) are examples of what you might expect to find.
  • The size, quantity and load capacity of the horizontal beams. The size of the beams is the clear entry measurement- the space between the upright frames when beams are in place. The load capacity might be on load notices at the end of each run, or otherwise if you can tell us the height of the front face of the beam, and whether the beam is a box or open section, we may be able to calculate how much weight they can take.

If you need us to drop the racking and stack it for transportation, we have SEIRS qualified engineers who can do this for you. The cost of this service would be deducted from the value of your racking. We can also arrange transport from any UK mainland address if required. Dexion shelving is a name sometimes used for Dexion racking, or pallet racking to use the generic name. Buying it can be a complicated business if you aren’t familiar with the specific terms and the way it works, but we can help you to find the right warehouse storage solution for your business.

People will often ask for Dexion racking when actually they want warehouse racking from a completely different (and non-compatible) manufacturer. If you send us a photo of the racking you have, we can identify the racking system and then give you a quote for compatible materials. Apex, Link 51, Redirack and PSS are all popular industrial racking makers that we always have in stock and we can usually source less common systems such as Hilo, Sperrin and Stow.

The size of the frames and beams that you need will depend on the dimensions of the space you have available and size of the pallets that you are storing. UK pallets are 1200mm x 1000mm and Euro pallets are 1200mm x 800mm, but if you are storing non-standard pallets or non-palletised items we can adjust standard pallet racking sizes to accommodate your stock.
